Dreams by Madeline Evenson

Dreams,
Are the answer,
To all of life’s problems,
They help you escape from reality,
And into a world of possibility,
Where anything can,
Happen.

Daring Diary by Adah Letendre

“My name is Corra. Right now, I am making my very first journal entry in my new diary my mom just bought for me. My goal is to write in this every day until my birthday, on November 6. I’m turning 7 years old. Today, my day was extremely boring with a capital x! First we did spelling, then we wrote for and hour in our journals, then we trudged through an hour of math. Lunch was after that and it was probably the best part of the day. And that’s saying something because eating is sooo over rated. After lunch we had recess, and then a nap. No story time! What’s wrong with this new first grade teacher! Doesn’t she know how to teach!? After nap-time, we had our snack, then we took a bathroom break, and last we went over the alphabet and counted to ten. I learned how to count to one hundred in kindergarten! I hope that it’s more fun tomorrow. Until tomorrow, big iguana. I don’t know what that means, but I saw it somewhere.”

“Corra, pay attention.” Mrs.Brooks said

Cookies and Pancakes by Arushi Devgun

“Who wants cookies!” Mom yelled.

“MEEEEE!” Rose yelled back.

The double chocolate chip fudge cookies were waiting on the table. Rose greedily took the whole plate up to her room. She emptied the whole plate of cookies into her mouth. “How are the cookies?” Mom said, tilting her head. “Good.” Rose replied, mouth filled. Suddenly, Mom’s eyes flashed red, fingernails turned into claws, and fangs replaced her canines.

“Sweetie. Come here.” Mom hissed. Rose backed up.

“No.” She said.

“I’ll make you.” Mom said. Mom reached out, gripped Rose’s arm, and bit into Rose’s neck. She felt herself getting vampire features, such as fangs, claws, and red eyes.

“The vampires will thrive.” Mom whispered into her daughter’s ear.

3 years later...

Ever since Rose became a vampire, everyone is in danger of getting the vampire plague. Over half the world are vampires and word is, Rose is in town.

“Astrid! Come get breakfast!” My mom yelled.

“Okay!” I responded. I walked down the stairs and sat at the table.

“Today it’s waffles.” Mom said.

“Are you kidding? That’s Rose’s favorite food!” I said.

“How ‘bout pancakes?” Mom suggested.

“Fine.” I said. Mom took out the frozen pancakes and heated them up. I grabbed the syrup from the fridge and poured it all over the pancakes. I sat down and began to eat. Boom! The wall crumbled. I shielded my face with my hands.

“Stay calm.” Mom said, voice trembling.

“Blooooood.” Rose hissed at Mom and I. “Want blood.”

“Go to your room.” Mom whispered. I ran up to my room.

“AIYEEEE!” I heard a scream from downstairs.

“Blooooood.” Two voices said in unison. I heard the stairs creak and footsteps get louder, and louder, and louder until both Rose and Mom were standing in front of me. I could feel their breath on me as they inched closer and closer until I couldn’t stand it anymore and gave in.

The Collector Probe by Finn Rowles

Prologue

“Our plan is succeeding.” Said the general of the mids. “We have taken the humans to planet B-234.7.

“They think we are joining forces, but we really are just experimenting with them. We are going to experiment weapons on them, as well as many other things. They won’t expect a thing.” He said.

A loud cheering came from the mid crowd below.

“We will finally be free from those stupid information things they send into space, teaching us everything about their species!!” He yelled.

More loud cheering came from the crowd.

“And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for! We launch the collector probe!” He said.

There was a deafening cheer from the crowd. The collector probe is a twenty mile long spaceship with tons of restaurants, shopping malls, and stuff that humans are obsessed with.

“We will finally have the weapon that wins us the war! The Devourer!” He yelled, as some mids caught the sight of the collector probe travelling at lightspeed. It would take days to arrive.

“We will be the rulers of the universe!” He yelled.

Chapter 1

2 days later...

I was so mad. I had been rejected. Which pretty much meant I had to live in a box under a transport load. Curled up in a corner under my bed, I thought about my parents. My parents had died years ago, due to the War of 2679. The war of 2679 wasn’t just a nuclear war. They had so many weapons. It was horrible. Only about two million people survived. Then the mids came, with their suspicious smiles and friendly personalities. Obviously it was a joke. I mean, aliens don’t come to planets to treat us like kings and queens. A deafening sound of an engine rang from the sky. What now? I looked out the window, and a ship that had to be ten miles long descended from the sky.

“All humans, enter the ship for a relocation to your own planet, A-776.3! Plus, on the ship, there are hundreds of free shopping malls, restaurants, and more!” Said the pilot.

People were running outside, to the ship. “Now, everyone, crowd in a tight circle, elbow to elbow! Don’t worry about the tubes, they’re just here to collect you.” The pilot said, as they sucked up person by person until there was no one left. After a couple of hours, I heard talking.

“We haven’t seen anyone yet, and we’ve been past hundreds of households!” A mid said.

“I know, what a ripoff! Last house. There may be someone in here.” Another one said.

I heard the door open. Two blue mids came into the room, holding gigantic LaserMachines. (Laser machine guns that stun people.)

"I’m gonna check under this-” Before he could finish his sentence, I grabbed his leg and pulled, and he landed right on his face. I grabbed his gun, blasted both of them, and they fell to the ground in a heap. I rubbed my hands together, feeling accomplished. What do I do now? I looked around. Just a gigantic field. But then, right in front of my, the air rippled. A circle of mids appeared. Before I could even say anything, I felt a hot laser hit the back of my head, and I blacked out.

Chapter 1 by Dalton D, Sam H, Siona K, and Mariam K

A shadowed figure sat at a starry pool. She looked around and screamed in horror, for she saw a blood-covered creature. The monster stared deep into her eyes, showing her a vision of her dark, bloody, gruesome death. She heard a voice, but she couldn’t make out what it was saying.
And then I awoke…….

“Max, get up,” Mom said sweetly. I rubbed my eyes and stretched. I had had the weirdest dream last night.  I yawned loudly and flopped back down onto my pillow. “Mom,” I groaned. “Do I have to get up, it’s Monday morning and I’m tired.”
“Don’t you remember sweetheart, today’s the day you’re finally going to ask him out. I glanced at the calendar. Today’s date was circled in bright, crimson, marker.
“Do I have to?” I asked my mom.
“If you want to have a date you do.” she replied.
“Then I’m going back to bed.” I argued.
“C’mon honey, You’ve got to do it.” Mom attempted on encouraging me, but I knew her tricks.
“But I don’t want to, and I’m tired.” I groaned.
“Fine, I’ll leave you in peace, but you’ll change your mind eventually.” Mom said sternly.
Wow. Mom never gives in that early. Something’s wrong.  Was she playing around with Daniel Miller again? I knew the two of them were a bucket-full of crazy.
I got out of bed. I looked at the small window  down the hallway.  No one was in sight of me. I slowly tip-toed to the window. I unlatched the hook, and pulled up the screen. I slowly crawled through the confined space.
When I got to the other side, I put the screen down, and re-latched the window. I quickly pulled it down.

I had successfully snuck out. The only problem was that I was in a completely new room, and someone was sitting in a desk a few feet away from me. I gasped.
Daniel Miller turned around just in time to see my eyes flare with purple flame and the falling of an antique vase.
“What are you doing here?” asked Daniel.
“Nothing.” I said dumbfoundedly. My power had never failed before. I quickly ducked under a small, round table, right before a shard of iron hit my left foot.
“What did you just do?” I asked.
 “Nothin.” He said.
“I know what you did, Daniel.  You’re such a traitor.” I said.
“You don’t know what I did, because I did nothing other than take out the bedroom keys,”he snapped.
“You didn’t take out the keys out of your pocket, there aren’t even any keys to this room.” I replied.
“How? Wha? Huh?” sputtered Daniel. I smiled with delight and rolled my eyes. I laughed, ran out of the room, picked up my backpack and lunch, said “Bye mom.” and ran out the door.

Nanoism by Daniel Wu

The Sun and the Moon, a man and a woman, loved each other so much, that the Sun sacrificed himself everyday, so that the Moon could live.

Ghost Savior by Nathan Wu

I was about to splat. I was falling down to the ground. Crack I didn’t splat. Here is my near death survival encounter just for jokes on you. It was Monday. Back to school sucks. Yet I was excited because it seemed fun. I loved going to the history museum. It’s supposedly haunted on the top floor.  I wanted to go. Yet my teacher said. “No.” I sneaked up.

I was with my best friend Satisha. She’s pretty nice so I brought her along. Plus, she’s a teacher’s pet which was good for me. I loved the thought of spending the day at a history museum. Plus it was healthy. I loved ghosts since i was little. I never believed in ghosts though.

Until now.

We approached the top quietly. I was scared to death. Plus I was haunted by the sound of the floorboards. Then I fell. The floorboard tore a hole through the ground. I fell and I fell.

I was going to die for sure then a ghost saved me. I saw it. It was happy-looking. It said “Hi.” It laughed then it disappeared. The last thing I saw before I fainted was a flash.

Quick as a ghost by Arjun Taneja

Jerry Nordstrom was a kid who everyone thought hallucinated his life. Even on the things that were closest to him kids would tease him and say “Are you sure you saw that right, Jerry.” This time he knew that this was no hallucination. He had actually saw a ghost. It was white and floating in the air. Jerry was so scared but, he knew no one in the school would believe him. Jerry had decided to just keep quiet unless the ghost came after him, if that happened he would have to tell his parents.

The next day, Jerry went to school and headed to his first class. There! A ghost floating above the ground. Jerry wanted to scream. Several kids were looking right at ghost but saying absolutely nothing. The ghost said “Jerry, beware.” Jerry let loose a silent scream and ran into the classroom. He decided that he would find out who the ghost was once and for all. Jerry knew if he told his parents they would probably not believe him because they also thought he was delusional. Tomorrow, Jerry would start looking for the ghost that haunted him.

The next morning, Jerry got to school early and found a nice spot to hide. He scoped around looking for ghosts. He picked up nothing but strikeouts. “Hey, why are you here so early?” said a voice behind him. Jerry knew that voice, it was Mr. Nichols the school principal.”Just chilling out.” jerry said, instantly knowing that answer wasn’t good enough. “Well, stop chilling and get out of here.” Jerry knew better than to argue. He grabbed his backpack and started towards the exit when BAM! There it was. Jerry ducked behind the water fountain, not the best place to hide. The ghost disappeared around the corner and Jerry followed it until the ghost took a slight look over his shoulder. Jerry flattened himself against the wall. The ghost did not notice him and kept going down the hallway. Jerry followed him as the ghost turned the corner and started leading him towards the principal's office. Jerry had a bad feeling about this but kept following the ghost anyway. Suddenly, the ghost made a sharp right turn into the principal's office. Jerry made the mistake of looking into the principal’s office. Mr. Nichols took off the ghost suit. Jerry could no longer hold back.
“HEY” Jerry screamed as he burst into the principal's office. Jerry almost laughed out of his mind at the look of surprise that oozed from principal Nichols’s face. “Jerry  Nordstrom.” the principal screamed with rage
.
“Why are you the ghost”? Jerry yelled

“To scare the crap out of guys like you.” the principal said.

“Do you enjoy doing that?” jerry said.

“I love making you think that you are delusional.” the principal said.

“I’m not delusional?” jerry asked.

“Not in the least bit.” said the principal.

“How about the other kids?” Jerry said.

“I told them all at an assembly when you were absent.” said the principal
“Why me?” Jerry asked.

“Random selection.” the principal said.

Jerry was truly mystified. He realized that he didn’t hallucinate at all. The other kids still didn’t know that but Jerry was satisfied because he knew.

Snorezilla by Nathan Wu

I woke up because of something. My brother snoring. There has been a myth that 2 brothers who snore can’t sleep together because they’ll wake each other up. It’s the same thing with me and my brother. I snore and he snores. We wake each other. Same thing with dads.
The only reason I sleep with my brother is because my mom’s uncle came. And he slept in my bed. My brother is a Snorezilla. I snore but he snores more than me by at least 5 times. He snores so much that someone had to ask him to stop snoring. In a store when he fell asleep.
I gave him the nickname Snorezilla because he snores so much. In fact, I hoped he was a snoring god. It started about a month ago when he got weird though. His snoring would be like words. Such as “Hi” and “ How are You.” I thought it was weird. Then it became even more weird he would start to snore when he was talking. I thought that he did it at school and he did. At school one day he began to snore. Then he collapsed asleep.
In fact, snoring is what started the you-know-what event. It began like this. One day at school in math class he collapsed asleep. I tried to wake him up. The math teacher saw us and yelled at us. My brother was mad at me. That night he was about to tell mom. But he wasn’t able too. He collapsed and fell asleep. I ran to the nurse. The nurse came out and called 911. The the paramedics came in. They gave him cpr and left. He was snoring so loud that it hurt my ears. I came with the paramedics to the hospital. While they were checking him I was wondering what would happen
A short while later they came in with my mom, they told me this. “ Your brother has deadly narcolepsy, he may never wake up again.” I groaned and passed out

Thieves by Jack Wherry

Foxwell said, “Let’s make some money.”

One of the bandits asked, “The wrong way?”

The captain replied, “What do you think?”

Captain Foxwell sat in front of his band of thieves. While he sat back and planned, his thieves were out and stealing. Every day, they would report back to him with their earnings. Robert Sullivan, an aging man with an attitude, was the co-captain and commanded the troops of thieves in the field.

They were currently in a run-down mansion in the suburbs of New York City. No one bought it for almost a decade, citing the fact that quite a few people died there. It was thought that ghosts resided in its peeling walls. That was until Foxwell and Sullivan, partners in crime, bought it using ill-gotten money. They found thieves on the street and gave them food and shelter in exchange for their profits.

It was 6:30 in the morning. In the bedrooms, all of the alarm clocks go off at 6. They eat immediately and then meet to discuss who will get which part of the city that day. Often, some of the crooks fight for their part of the city. Captain Foxwell was halfway through assigning parts of the city when the doorbell rang. A moment later, the door crashed to the floor. Two armed police officers stood in the doorway, hands on their weapons.

“OUT OF HERE!” screamed Robert Sullivan.

They had planned an escape route. Sullivan would lead half of the group out the back window, whereas Foxwell would send the rest to grab their loot and take it out the front. They’d meet in what used to be the garden, had it been maintained.

But the police officers had the whole place surrounded. Sullivan’s team darted out first, distracting the police and bringing them to the back of the mansion. Foxwell’s found a gap and ran for it with the money. They didn’t have anything more planned, so every man ran in different directions.

The men were on foot and the police in cruisers, so they quickly caught up with the biggest pack. The pack broke and the police were confused. Some thieves climbed buildings, others darted inside shops, others still hid behind bushes at parks.

Of course the police were interested in prosecuting all of the thieves, but the ones of most interest were Foxwell, with the loot, and Sullivan, because they co-founded the whole operation. The officers flew through doors of shops, chased people who looked like Foxwell on the street, later realizing that they were innocent, running through parks with K9 units, but they found nothing more than a credit card.
The credit card had the MasterCard logo on the top, with the number listed below. It belonged to Robert Sullivan. Knowing that it could be useful, the officers kept the card. One very intelligent officer decided to let the K9 dogs sniff the card to pick up on Sullivan’s scent, since he had been touching it.

After hours more tireless searching, they found Robert Sullivan sitting next to Captain George Foxwell behind a bush, right next to where the credit card was.

SENSES IN THE SUMMER by Amrita Pal

I hear the birds cawing.
Calling to their friends.
I’m starting to hear some tweets.
Both sounds start to blend.

I see the leaves blowing.
Trying to fly free.
They want to have their journey
But away from the tree.

I feel the sun shining
All over my skin.
The warmth is comforting
Just like my kin.

I can smell the freshness
That’s in the air.
It feels so natural.
I'm happy it’s there.

I taste the cold drink,
Refreshing and sweet.
It’s light in my mouth.
Splashing with victory.

A 77 Word Lesson by Nathan Wu

Life is a fly was my quote. I was a fly.

Ron, a fly wanted fun. He decided to go play with a dog. It did not go well however, he was listening to see if there was a venus flytrap. There wasn’t. He flew straight to the dog. The dog’s tail hit him. He felt a crack and was knocked flying. He was losing consciousness. When he woke up there was a splotch on his body.

Traitor Book 4 by Nathan Wu

The people of the lettuce kingdom were always corrupt. Even before the war they had fought and quarreled. Many lettuce people were betraying the kingdom. Many others were terrorizing the Broccoli kingdom. Lettuce men and women were punished.

When the Broccoli kingdom declared war. The Spinach Kingdom went to help the Lettuce Kingdom. The Broccoli kingdom was exiled forever. The Spinach Kingdom although peaceful. Was terrorized by the Lettuce Kingdom spies. Many Lettuce men wanted the broccoli men to win. Now we will journey to our main character’s mind.

I was crowned a hero with Johnny. But still, no one jumped off the jump anyways. But we were building a ladder down the jump so it didn’t matter. Mitchell Hugh was gone.

We decided to jump off the jump. It wasn’t an idea really. Johnny wanted to meet our friends in the spinach kingdom. The ladder wasn’t finished being built so we just jumped. It was relatively peaceful. The bottom had been coated with goo to break our fall. We landed on the goo. Excited to meet old friends.

We watched in horror. Spinach people and Lettuce men had been completely destroyed. We would soon learn that what we saw wasn’t what we thought.

Arrows whizzed by. I remembered the war before. I wondered why anyone would want to declare war on the lettuce people. Then a soldier went up to me. He said that someone from my kingdom was coming. I looked at the drop hill. Pepe was here. Pepe is the type of guy that loves to fight. He ran up grabbed a gun and rushed in.

Pepe lasted only 20 seconds. Spinach men and women were dying. The soldier that was talking to me died. Me and Johnny were cornered with no ammunition.

We were dead. I regretted re-visiting. We were cornered and we were known as traitors to the Lettuce and the Broccoli kingdom.

What was the name of this poem again? by Siona Kaura

What was the name of this poem again?
What was this poem about?
I can’t believe it, it’s due today,
I really want to pout.
Was it about a dog and a frog?
Or was it about a hen named Ben?
Was it about an ant on a log?
Or was it about a sparkly pen?
How could I forget it, how, how, how?
Never mind, I remembered it now.

The jaws of liberty by Ruhi Datye

The jaws of liberty have clamped long since past
And justice no longer remains in a cast
Both have grown stronger and stronger
But sometimes twisted into something longer

He has lots of toys, but no life
And so the coward lives in strife

The Story of Neal Philius (Part 1)

I was born in awesomeness. I was amazing and awesome. I was always a daredevil.

No parents was the best rule ever. I roamed as I wanted looking for food and dares to do. I also was a troublemaker and a prankster. I loved the thought of pranks and dares.

Then one day I saw a new world. It started like this. I was just walking when mitchell hugh tells me to jump in the Drop. I ran over to the drop. I was thinking of what was underneath. Death. I would be the first to find out. Forever.

Then I jumped.

The Journey book 3 by Nathan Wu

Johnny and I began to climb our way back to the Roko Republica.

I missed everyone. Even Mitchell Hugh. Too much death was my only thought.

We climbed the whole way it took days and weeks. Finally we arrived. People greeted us happily.

Even Mitchell Hugh. We held a funeral for Neal Philius. We were heroes forever. Even time can repair because of Neal Philius’s sacrifice and all of the other’s sacrifices to keep us alive. We lived for the rest of time in peace and we allied with the Lettuce and spinach people and defeated the Broccoli people.
