Nanoism by Daniel Wu

The Sun and the Moon, a man and a woman, loved each other so much, that the Sun sacrificed himself everyday, so that the Moon could live.

True Self by Daniel Wu

The wealthy man
Disguises himself
For a woman
That truly loves him,
And not his money

Scars by Daniel Wu

Show me the breaks in your skin
For I wish to know
How many times
I have failed you.

Backwards and Forwards Poem 2 by Daniel Wu

We are in a corrupt country
I do not think that
Anything can change us
This is shocking, but
“An eye for an eye will make the world blind”
Isn’t true, and
“War is Peace”
Is the Truth
Communism
Is more important than
Happiness

Backwards and forwards poem by Daniel Wu

You dumb
Said mom
I spilled syrup
Sorry

The Last Civilization Part 1 by Daniel Wu

Today was the day. The day of initiation. Today I was going on a raid the Fire Skull Kin. I was going to prove my worth to my parents, but more importantly, Fiona. Fiona recently started dating another guy, Luca. Now, Luca and I were raiding different tribes and there was a great chance that if my raid was successful, and Luca’s was not, she would break up with him and date someone else, preferably me.
Because my dad is the weapons chief, I will probably get a better weapon, a pistol or maybe even a semi-automatic rifle. The fully-automatic guns only go to the highest chiefs. The common weapon would be spears and clubs. I smiled smugly when I saw Luca get a club, the lowest-grade weapon. Now all I had to do was not mess up.
Naturally, I messed up. Now I’m stuck in the middle of nowhere with Luca and Fiona. During the raid, my horse acted up and ran straight into the woods, where Luca was preparing for an ambush. Fiona was with him. Luca never explained why, because females weren’t allowed on raids. Now, none of us knew how to get back, even though Luca had come here to ‘prepare for an ambush’. Nearby, I hear a horn of an enemy tribe, or, more specifically, the strongest tribe in the world.
An arrow whistled out of the sky and struck Luca, killing him
“Come on! We have to go!” I say, dragging Fiona behind me, trying my best to keep her alive.

The Loving Abomination part 3 by Daniel Wu

After school, Loren, Marks crush, walked out of school, heading home. On the way home, she came across Mark. Mark was horribly mutated, and unrecognizable to Loren. Terrified, she screamed and ran as fast as she could to her house.
The real Mark, peering through the eyes of a monster, had lost the will to fight. He had given up fighting the virus, and the virus progressed faster. Seeing Loren, something ignited in him. He regained the will to live. He fought the virus and steadily gained ground. He drew out of the monster that had taken over him and became normal again.

Five years later they got married :)

The Last Civilization (Intro) by Daniel Wu

Narration: Fifty years ago, the Cold War ended with a nuclear war.

A terrorist group known as Salvation placed a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles and set it off, making it look like the Soviets.

America, already in a tense situation with Russia, immediately accused the Soviets and sent a fleet of six hydrogen bombs at Moscow. Four bombs were destroyed in the air by anti-missile technology, but the two remaining struck Moscow head-on, devastating the city.

The terrorist group saw the opportunity and released a gas in America. Again, Americans accused the Soviets and a nuclear war began, dragging in other countries, making it a World War.

The war directly kills billion people, mostly innocent civilians. Bombs were thrown everywhere without restraint, causing a fallout. Another half billion people died because of the radiation.

Now, fifty years after the war, the story of a young boy begins...

My Recurring Nightmare by Daniel Wu

I slowly opened my eyes and stretched. Sluggishly, I sat up and blinked a couple of times. Suddenly, I jolted awake, remembering that today was the day that I was supposed to go to Boston for my sister’s wedding! The plan was supposed to leave at five a.m., but right now it must be around eight or nine. My first rational thought was that the plane got delayed a ton and my mom was just letting me sleep in.

I slowly took a shower, dressed and brushed my teeth, my usual morning routine, not thinking anything was out of the ordinary. As I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen for breakfast, I realized that the house was silent. There wasn’t classical music blasted all across the house. There wasn’t the smell of the amazing bacon that my mom fries every day. But, there was a certain smell. It was a sweet sickly smell, like a rose, but soaked in gasoline and bathed in skunk spray.

The smell got stronger as I got closer to the kitchen. As soon as I stepped into the kitchen, I almost died of shock.

There, laying on the kitchen counter, was a body, like one of the zombies on TV. At some point in time, it might have been a male, but there was no telling for sure.

Numb with shock, I fumbled with my cell phone, trying to call 911. Before my phone could even turn on, the body leaped for me, pulling me in with it’s one attached arm, trying in vain to replace it’s own missing body parts.

A thoughtful harmless rant poem by Daniel Wu

A little thing

There is a little thing in my life
It’s called my true self
Its gotten quite small
But now,
People like me better
Right?

I can be athletic,
Without moving an inch
I can just act that way
And people think I am

I can be smart
Without going to school
Just fake sick
And people just assume

Now I’m older,
People start to grow
People start to see
They see my true self.
They know I’m not
Athletic, or
Smart, or
Kind, or
Funny.

Let this be a lesson
Show your true self
So you can work
So when people start to see,
They’ll know
That you are
Athletic, and
Smart, and
Kind, and
Funny.

The loving abomination, part 2 by Daniel Wu

On the way to the gun shop, a police car came by, and, seeing blood on his face, handcuffed him and threw him in his car. Mark was brought to the police station and he was questioned, but he would not give any answers, for he had none.

They had a doctor come and take DNA samples and they confirmed the blood was from the nurse. But, they also discovered that there was something else in the blood. It wasn’t quite a virus, but it was acting like one. It was still alive, living outside a living body, which viruses and bacteria cannot do.
They also took a blood sample from Mark, but the samples were inconclusive, because the ‘virus’ had taken over and destroyed his DNA.

Before anything else could happen, Mark broke free of his steel restraints with inhuman strength and stole the baton of a police officer and attacked him. He let out a maniacal laugh and jumped out the second-story window, without even pausing to consider the consequences. He broke through the bulletproof glass like it was no more than a soft tofu. He landed on the ground and dropped to all fours and ran towards his school, hands and feet turning into claws and skin turning slimy and green, like an amphibians’.

Meanwhile, the nurse stepped outside her office and headed towards the principal’s office. The mutated virus inside her had taken complete control of her and had totally consumed her mind. She was enslaved to a powerful force no bigger than 200 nanometers in length.

Karin, noticing Mark’s absence, walked towards the nurse’s office, looking for Mark. At the office, she was terrified to find Mark missing and the blood with the virus. Before she could make a conscious decision, the mutated virus already had full control over her mind and killed her, adding her to the people who have fallen victim to the virus.

A Thoughtful Harmless Rant #2 by Daniel Wu

The Monty Hall problem is as follows:
You are in a game show, where there are three doors. Behind each door is either a goat or a ferrari. There is only one ferrari. You are told to choose any door. If you choose the door with the ferrari, you get to keep it. You choose door 1. Instead, the host opens door 2. Behind door two is a goat. You can choose another door to open. Do you choose door 1 or door 3?

Some people say that it is the same chance either way, because of common sense. Other people say that they think they’re smart say that you should choose door 3, because the probability of door one does not change, but door 3 should be one half.

My explanation is as follows:
The probability is the same. When people say that door one is only one-third chance, and door 3 is one-half chance, they are solving the problem as it was, before the conditions were changed (When the host opened door 2 and you see the goat). If you solve the equation so that conditions have been accounted for, we will have the truly right answer. The new problem is this: There are 3 doors. There is one ferrari and two goats. The door 2 does not have the car, so it has to be either door one or three, so the probability is fifty percent.

The Dog (Possibly part I) by Daniel Wu

I’ve always loved taking pictures. They allowed me to capture a single moment of the worlds around me. I always bring my camera on vacation, and I always end up with at least a couple of good photos. My mom liked them too. They would always say something like "Oh, I really like that flower!" or "Mark, I really think that water looks really beautiful!"

I just came back from a trip to the Grand Canyon and I was excited to look through my photos on my computer. Scrolling through my photos, I saw something that caught my attention. In a photo of my mom standing at the edge of the canyon, I think I saw a face peeking out of the bushes. I looked again, then it was gone. Creeped out, I looked at the photo again, admiring the beauty of the canyon. As I looked around, the thing that I thought was a face appeared again. I looked at the place where the face was again, and it disappeared again. What the crap? I thought. The face was devoid of any emotion, just staring emptily into space. Extremely creeped out now, I closed the computer and gave it to my mom to get it developed.

Later that night, I decided to tell Mom about this. I showed him the photo and told him to look at the photo, but try to see the face. She said that he saw nothing, but she really liked the photo itself. When I looked again, the face seemed different. The face was was very pale, like it had been dunked and soaked in whitewash. I showed my mom the photo, but she didn't see the face either.

That night, I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking about the guy in the picture. Is that a guy, and if it is, then who is he and what is he doing hiding in the bushes? How come the face seemed to be changing? I tried to convince himself that it was just some random normal guy, hiding in the bushes doing whatever, but my brain just wouldn't believe it.

Today was my birthday, and my mom is going to take me to the dog pound for a dog, I’ve always begged my mom for a dog.

“I want this one,” I said

“Sure! That one seems cute,” My mom said.

I had just seen a border retriever that was watching me with a cute smile. I went to go try and pet the border retriever. As I stuck my hand through the bars, the dog immediately came over to me and rubbed its head against my hand affectionately. I smiled as I gave him an ear scratch.

"I think I'll name you Francis," Francis was my dad, who died a couple years ago because of a drunk driver. I think that this dog is a lot like my dad; strong, hardworking, and very loving.

That evening, I went to look at the photo again, to see if that guy was still there. It wasn't on my desk, where I had left it. I was about to ask my mom if she took it, when Francis came trotting by with the photo in his mouth. The only part he chewed off was the part where the face had been.

That night, I lay in my bed, awake. I can't sleep tonight, for some reason. I just have this sense of dread, like something bad is going to happen, just I don't know what. All of a sudden, my door creaked open. Petrified with fear, I stopped breathing and lay as still as possible. Nothing happened for a long time, and I felt like I was having a staring contest with the Grim Reaper. Cautiously, I looked up at the door. Francis, with a big silly grin, stood there, looking at me. When he saw me looking at him, he tilted his head and leaped onto my bed. His eyes flickered red for a moment, then stopped. A few moments later, his eyes flickered red some more, then stayed red. Francis put his paws on my chest, pinning me down. Suddenly, his jaw opened and closed around my neck and squeezed.

A Thoughtful Harmless Rant, by Daniel Wu

People never see how a person truly is. People are never the same person on the outside as in the inside. People may act differently to seem different, to be better, because they are ashamed of what they really are. Judging people is only a minuscule fraction of this problem. Including is sometimes just as bad as excluding if being included means that you shouldn’t be yourself. Being forced to change your identity, or mask your identity, isn’t what the world should be. The world needs to stop shaming those who show their true selves.

The Loving Abomination (Part 1) by Daniel Wu

Karin leaned from behind him while the movie in Forensics flickered on the screen in front of the class, whispering in his ear, “You know, if you bite your fingernails, the pieces will poke through your intestines and you’ll get a bleeding ulcer.”

“Shut up,” Mark hissed back at her as he saw Loren Underfelt, the hottest girl in the school, looking at him.

Mr. Stanton looked up from the paper he was correcting, pushed up his glasses and scowled at the two of them.

After class, Karin tapped Mark on the shoulder and said, “You’re the one who asked me to bug you about it.”

“Yeah, but…” he stopped talking as a pair of freshmen boys ran like elementary kids down the hall, cutting between him and Karin. It was a good thing, Mark decided. He’d almost told her the real reason he wanted to stop biting his nails. Or horking his snot or sucking the blood from a hangnail or any of the other instances of him eating his own flesh and blood. It started out as accidental. He’d been playing boot hockey over Christmas break and he’d been whanged in the nose and gotten a fierce nosebleed. Swallowing the blood to keep from grossing everyone out by spitting it on the ice had started something inside of him. The blood made him feel...more alive. Like an espresso without the bitterness.

During lunch, Mark wasn’t hungry and couldn’t eat. He felt weird, like someone had filled his veins with Sprite.

“What’s wrong?” Karin asked.

“Dunno. I think I’ll go to the nurse,” Mark croaks, surprised at his sudden voice change.

Walking through the halls, Mark started to feel a change going on in his body. His blood now felt like sriracha sauce, and his arms felt longer and his legs felt shorter. Suddenly, he dropped to all fours and ran down the halls like an animal. He turned into the nurse’s office and sprang onto the nurse like a rabid wolf. He tore savagely at the nurse’s neck and succeeded in ripping out her throat. And, battle won, Mark feasted on the nurse’s body, slurping up the blood and crunching on the softer bones. Blood and gore splattered all over his ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ shirt

Suddenly, Mark returned to his usual self, and, terrified and revolted at what he did, ran out the building. Bits

of the nurse’s liver still clung to the corners of his mouth. Mad with terror, Mark ran toward a local gun shop,

looking for his own death.

Deep in the Fields by Daniel Wu

Dipper, a field mouse, was standing on the windowsill, scanning the kitchen for anything that he could steal for his brother and himself. He was about to give up and suffer one more day of starvation when he saw some crumbs on the counter that might have been leftovers from the owner’s breakfast. I listened carefully for the jingle of the farm owner’s cat’s collar. He heard it upstairs in a room. Good, he thought. He carefully leaped down from the windowsill and landed as quietly and gracefully as he could. He paused for a moment to listen for the cat. He hears the cat upstairs still and quietly tip-toed over to the counter to get the crumbs. Just as he was about to start nibbling on the biggest crumb when the front door creaked open and the farm owner stepped in. Dipper scrambled towards the window sill, but slipped on a small crumb and fell to the floor of the kitchen. Hurting very bad and barely conscious, Dipper lay on the ground. The man, shocked at the mouse’s presence, walked over to Dipper.

The man, genuinely concerned about the mouse’s condition, picked Dipper up gently and put him in a small peach basket, where Dipper immediately fell unconscious.

When Dipper woke up, he had a severe a headache and all he saw was red. What he didn’t know, of course, was that it was a peach. Dipper squirmed a little bit and immediately, his leg started screaming in pain. Overcome with pain, the mouse fell unconscious again. The next time he woke up, he was laying on a paper towel. Right where his leg was, there was a small splotch of blood. He heard some weird, angry voices, and looked up. He saw the man and a little girl making the weird noises and waving their hands around. Finally, the girl stopped and, with very heavy footsteps, walked away. The man picked Dipper up and set him on the ground, next to the cat. The last thing Dipper saw was the spurt of blood when the cat’s teeth connected with his throat, then everything went black.

In the Fields of Dreams by Daniel Wu

In the field of dreams
I fly
Away from the problems of the world
Enjoying the absurdity of me

By myself
I fly
Watching the world
As it should be

Awakened,
I am scorned by reality,
For I am not good enough
I need to be better

Asleep,
I am praised by me
For I am perfect
As the way I am
