The Exaggerated Day by Brittany Wang

It was a rainy day at Weaver Lake, and we were all inside typing away. A teacher popped inside with a loud noise like popcorn popping, and whispered something to Mr.S. Mr.S jumped right through the ceiling, smashing a huge hole. When he came back down to the classroom, it was a miracle he didn’t smash a hole in the floor too. After he assured the astonished teacher he was OK, he told the class the surprising news.

“There will be no break, due to the fact that the playground is floating away.” Mr.S announced. Gasps of horror sucked the air out of the classroom. They quickly turned into sounds of amazement.

“Mr.S, we’d love to play on a floating playground! Please can we go out?” the class asked as one. Just at that moment Gary strode inside the classroom with his loyal servants blowing trumpets.

“My, my, my! What a tremendous hole in your classroom’s ceiling! What have you been up to? Making soda and mentos fountains?” Gary boomed grandly.

“Gary, can we please play on the floating playground?” the class pleaded.

“Of course you may! That is if you can catch it!” Gary yelled, throwing bright yellow raincoats for the class. There was an enormous noise as the class stampeded to get raincoats, and an even bigger noise as the class hurried outside to catch the floating playground.

“Well there they go.” Mr.S sighed, “Leaving their paper and computers to get soaked.” By now, the wind blowing all the rain in the classroom through the hole was enormous. And while Gary and Mr.S chatted over a cup of coffee, the class had caught up to the playground and was playing awesomely in the rain.
